Architect, System Software - Orbital Data

Job Description

Job Title: Principal Architect, System Software - Orbital Data Center. Location: Santa Clara, California, USA (Remote - US)

Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end system software architecture for orbital AI and inference platforms
  • Design resilient fault-tolerant systems for space-based data center operations
  • Define architecture across firmware, BIOS, OS, drivers, and AI software stack;
  • Build autonomous manageability systems for remote and unreachable data centers
  • Architect recovery systems for radiation, thermal cycling, and hardware faults
  • Develop telemetry and monitoring systems for large-scale orbital fleets
  • Define hardware-software interfaces and system partitioning with hardware teams
  • Translate customer mission requirements into scalable system architecture;
  • Ensure reliability across long-duration space operations and harsh environments
  • Collaborate with bring-up teams to debug and stabilize first silicon systems

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years experience in server or platform system software engineering
  • Degree in EE, CS, Physics, or related field
  • Strong experience in AI infrastructure and large-scale system design;
  • Deep knowledge of system architecture, firmware, and OS integration
  • Experience with hardware interfaces like PCIe, I2C, SMBus
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Python
  • Experience with system debugging and pre-silicon development environments
  • Experience using Git, Perforce, and Jira

Preferred:

  • Experience with space, aerospace, or defense-grade computing systems
  • Knowledge of radiation effects (SEU, SEFI) and mitigation techniques
  • Experience with autonomous or remote data center operations
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA AI stack or GPU infrastructure;
  • Experience with Redfish, MCTP, PLDM protocols
  • Experience designing fault-tolerant distributed systems
  • Experience working with large cross-functional engineering teams
  • Knowledge of aerospace standards and rad-hard system design

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $272,000 to $431,250 annually
