Job Description

Job Title: Principal Electrical Engineer - Planning & Coordination. Location: Redmond, Washington, USA

Job Type: Full-time (Hybrid, 3 days per week in office)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of electrical engineering projects, including PCB and superconducting integrated circuit development, validation, integration, and sustaining activities
  • Coordinate program schedules, critical paths, risk mitigation, and cross-team dependencies
  • Manage supplier relationships by conducting capability assessments, technical reviews, readiness evaluations, process development, yield improvement, cost optimization, and performance tracking;
  • Collaborate with qubit design, electrical, mechanical, systems, reliability, sourcing, supply chain, fabrication partners, contract manufacturers, system integrators, and leadership teams to ensure successful project execution
  • Improve PCB development processes, documentation, quality frameworks, design reviews, manufacturing readiness, validation workflows, dashboards, and reporting systems
  • Manage program budgets, engineering resources, portfolio planning, build costs, vendor non-recurring engineering expenses, capital planning, forecasting, and cost tracking
  • Present technical and project updates to engineering and executive stakeholders, influence decisions across teams, and mentor junior engineering planning coordinators and engineers
  • Promote Microsoft's culture and values throughout project execution

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or a related field with the required industry or research experience, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Ability to satisfy export control and citizenship verification requirements as required by applicable regulations

Preferred:

  • 12+ years of experience in engineering program management, hardware development, technical leadership, or related fields
  • Experience working with PCB development, superconducting integrated circuits, fabrication vendors, electronics manufacturing services, and external suppliers
  • Strong understanding of PCB stack-ups, signal integrity, power delivery, manufacturing constraints, and electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Experience in quantum systems, high-performance computing, or advanced embedded hardware development;
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), process development, and technology maturation
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, engineering resources, and cross-functional teams
  • Experience managing supplier performance and technical engagements
  • Ability to leverage AI tools to improve engineering efficiency, performance analysis, research, and hardware development workflows

Benefits And Compensation:

  • Base salary: USD $142,800 to $274,800 per year across most U.S. locations
  • Base salary: USD $188,000 to $304,200 per year in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area
  • Additional benefits and compensation may be available based on role and location

  • Travel requirement is less than 25%
