Job Description
Job Title: Experimental Physicist II (Quantum Annealing or Qubit Coherence). Location: Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada
Responsibilities:
- Characterize and calibrate superconducting quantum processors.
- Model, assess, and improve real-world quantum processor performance.
- Characterize, understand, and reduce noise in superconducting circuits.
- Develop parametric designs for new devices and device enhancements;
- Assess the impact of packaging, I/O, electronics, and cryogenic elements on processor performance.
- Develop and execute experimental procedures for operating and understanding superconducting devices.
- Develop new approaches and parametric designs to improve processor operation and performance.
- Create theoretical models and simulations to understand experimental results.
- Develop analysis routines to fit theoretical models to experimental data and identify outlier behavior in large superconducting systems.
- Document experimental results clearly for the broader processor development team;
- Create and contribute to LISP software infrastructure for modeling, calibrating, and operating processors.
- Collaborate with processor development scientists, device designers, engineers, cryogenic experts, and applications developers.
- Communicate with internal teams including marketing, intellectual property, applications development, and engineering.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or M.Sc. in physics or a related discipline, or equivalent experimental research experience.
- Strong critical-thinking and technical problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and deep understanding of an area of expertise.
- Ability to quickly learn new technical topics;
- Strong software development experience related to experimental design and automation, data acquisition, and data analysis.
- Willingness to learn new programming languages and software concepts as needed.
- Ability to work effectively on interdisciplinary teams and across a wide variety of problems.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to summarize experimental results for broad audiences.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a time-sensitive environment.
- Exceptional candidates will have a background in quantum information, digital or analog superconducting devices, device physics, noise models, or characterization.

- Base pay range: 123,000 to 169,000 CAD per year for Burnaby.
