Job Description
Job Title: Lead Quantum Device Theorist. Location: Berkeley, California or Fremont, California, USA
Responsibilities:
- Develop simulation tools to model noise in superconducting qubits and improve processor performance
- Model and analyze entangling gate operations in quantum processors;
- Apply optimal control techniques to enhance quantum gate and readout performance
- Build analytical tools to interpret experimental data and diagnose system anomalies
- Perform detailed error-budget modeling to support quantum error correction
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across device design, control systems, calibration, and algorithms
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of experience
- Strong expertise in circuit QED, Hamiltonian modeling, and superconducting circuits
- Experience modeling noise in large-scale quantum systems and informing system design
- Experience simulating open quantum systems and analyzing experimental data;
- Proven expertise in noise modeling for quantum error correction, including coherent and incoherent errors
- Strong programming skills in Python for scientific applications
- Ability to work in collaborative, cross-functional environments
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience with optimal control theory for superconducting qubits
- Familiarity with fault-tolerant architectures and quantum error correction codes
- Published research in peer-reviewed journals;
- Experience with high-performance computing or GPU-based simulations
- Familiarity with scientific libraries such as QuTiP or Stim
