Job Title: Principal Researcher - Quantum. Location: Kongens Lyngby, Copenhagen, Denmark

Responsibilities:
- Own the technical strategy, architecture, and design of a major subsystem or capability within a quantum hardware program.
- Evaluate technical trade-offs, risks, and opportunities using scientific and engineering evidence.
- Design and drive critical experiments that reduce uncertainty and support informed technical decisions.
- Maintain high standards for data quality, validation, calibration, and reproducibility;
- Translate scientific insights into practical system requirements, designs, performance targets, and execution plans.
- Partner with theory, engineering, and software teams to connect models, simulations, measurements, controls, and implementation into an integrated system.
- Work with external suppliers, technology partners, and research collaborators to advance program goals and reduce technical risks.
- Mentor scientists and engineers.
- Communicate complex technical topics to senior leaders and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to technical excellence and uphold the organization's culture and values.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience leading or building complex quantum architecture.
- Experience designing experiments and interpreting evidence for critical technical decisions.
- Experience with quantitative systems reasoning across physical mechanisms and architecture;
- Ability to leverage AI tools for performance modeling, analysis, research gathering, and task automation.
- Ability to evaluate AI-assisted and agentic solutions using measurable outcomes and human-in-the-loop safeguards consistent with responsible AI requirements.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements;
- Must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Must meet applicable export control requirements and provide citizenship or qualifying residency documentation when required.
Preferred:
- Experience leading the architecture, development, and validation of a complex experimental, quantum, semiconductor, photonic, or other advanced physical system.
- Deep expertise in quantum hardware systems or device technologies, precision measurement and instrumentation, control, calibration, characterization systems, electronics, photonics, cryogenics, vacuum systems, RF systems, materials, integrated-system technologies, reliability, or error characterization.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary technical work across at least two areas including theory, hardware engineering, software, modeling or simulation, and experimental validation;
- Experience delivering a technical program involving an external supplier, technology partner, industrial research group, or academic research organization.
- Demonstrated scientific, technical, or organizational impact from external technical programs.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Typical base pay range across Denmark: kr 912,400 to kr 1,559,800 per year.
- Certain roles may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
- The role is classified as Quantum Engineering IC5.
