Integration Engineer - SNSPD Nanofabrication

Job Description

Job Title: Process Integration Engineer - SNSPD Nanofabrication. Location: Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize fabrication processes for Superconducting Nanowire Single-Photon Detectors (SNSPDs) used in photonic quantum computing hardware.
  • Expand cleanroom process development capabilities at Sherbrooke's 3IT Nanofabrication Facility.
  • Perform cleanroom fabrication, thin-film characterization, and metrology to improve detector performance.
  • Collaborate with foundry partners to transition fabrication processes into high-volume manufacturing;
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure detector performance meets critical technical requirements.
  • Develop cleanroom process recipes and maintain detailed process documentation.
  • Analyze fabrication data and support continuous process improvements.
  • Travel as required.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Experimental Sciences, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in cleanroom process development focused on device fabrication.
  • Experience operating cleanroom equipment, including photolithography, electron beam lithography, PVD, CVD, ICP RIE, AFM, SEM, and ellipsometry.
  • Knowledge of optical thin-film metrology, characterization, and optimization.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience.
  • Experience with CMP for thin-film and multi-layer device planarization.
  • Experience transferring fabrication processes from laboratory to manufacturing.
  • Understanding of superconducting devices and optical detector technologies.
  • Experience with cryogenic detectors such as TES, MKID, or SNSPDs.
  • Experience writing Python code.
  • Experience analyzing large datasets and producing statistical reports.
