Job Description
Job Title: Quantum Applications Scientist. Location: Göteborg, Västra Götaland, Sweden
This position involves research, algorithm development, collaboration with customers, and direct contribution to quantum-classical optimization workflows.
Duties:
- Design and implement hybrid quantum algorithms that address optimization problems with real-world applications.
- Collaborate with hardware, compiler, and cloud engineering teams to improve trapped-ion based quantum workflows.
- Analyze classical and quantum optimization techniques, comparing scalability and performance;
- Engage with clients to define and solve applied optimization challenges using IonQ’s hardware;
- Develop reusable software platforms and integrate new quantum algorithms into larger systems.
- Support cross-functional projects to build and deploy end-to-end quantum solutions.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another STEM field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in optimization for logistics, transportation, smart grids, or supply chain.
- Strong background in Python and Qiskit; working knowledge of C++;
- Proven record of research publications or open-source code contributions.
- Knowledge of quantum optimization algorithms such as QAOA, varQITE, and quantum annealing;
- Understanding of linear algebra, matrix decompositions, probability, and computational complexity.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work directly with clients.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
