Manager, Quantum Applications

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Manager, Quantum Applications - Sweden Site Manager. Location: Gothenburg (Göteborg), Västra Götaland, Sweden

The selected candidate will be a founding leader of IonQ’s Sweden office and will help shape its culture, technical roadmap, and customer success strategy.

Duties:

  • Lead the IonQ Sweden quantum applications center, creating a culture focused on innovation and customer success.
  • Build, hire, and manage a high-performing technical and business team for the Nordics region;
  • Guide research and development of hybrid quantum algorithms and practical applications using IonQ’s trapped-ion quantum computers.
  • Identify business opportunities and help clients integrate quantum computing into real-world workflows.
  • Partner with product, marketing, and sales teams to design and deliver quantum solutions for various industries.
  • Develop intellectual property portfolios, including new algorithms and computational models;
  • Represent IonQ at industry conferences, workshops, and technical events;
  • Collaborate across IonQ’s global offices to align R&D, production, and application development goals.
  • Define multi-year strategies for expanding IonQ’s business in Europe and beyond.

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in technical R&D for algorithm or computational solution development.
  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams that develop and deliver innovative solutions.
  • 4+ years of experience managing customer-focused engagements or consulting projects;
  • Strong operational understanding of quantum computing systems;
  • Proven record of technical innovation through commercial deployments, patents, or research.
  • Experience building and operating business units focused on customer-driven technology solutions.
  • Ph.D. in chemistry, computer science, physics, engineering, or related field preferred;
  • Prior experience with commercializing emerging technologies and leading international collaborations.
  • Domain expertise in computational or quantum chemistry, optimization, or biopharma applications is highly valued.
