Job Description
Job Title: Quantum Architecture Research Software Developer. Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Responsibilities:
- Develop numerical tools for fault-tolerant photonic quantum computing architectures
- Improve the scalability and performance of quantum architectures across different layers of the technology stack
- Focus primarily on logical quantum error-correction layers
- Perform analytical work across different levels of abstraction, including optical circuits and qubit quantum error correction
- Develop, maintain, optimize, and introduce new features to the existing fault-tolerant software stack;
- Run large-scale error-correction simulations to evaluate system performance and estimate required resources
- Work with quantum architecture models, noise models, error-correction codes, and decoders
- Contribute to a research and software engineering environment focused on advancing quantum computing architectures
Qualifications:
- MSc in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, particularly with a focus relevant to quantum information theory
- Several years of research or industry experience in related fields
- Strong experience with object-oriented programming in Python
- Experience with high-performance computing, including writing and running optimized and parallelized code on supercomputers and computing clusters
- Experience with software engineering practices including testing, continuous integration, version control, documentation, and code review
- Familiarity with quantum computation theory, including quantum error correction under different noise models, codes, and decoders;
- Familiarity with optical quantum computing, particularly bosonic codes such as GKP states and the continuous-variable formalism
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
Preferred:
- Up-to-date knowledge of developments in quantum computing and quantum error correction
- Knowledge of measurement-based quantum computation
- Experience programming in low-level languages such as C or C++
- Experience working in a fast-growing technology startup environment
- PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
Salary and Benefits:
- Base salary range of CAD $120,000 to $150,000 per year
- Base salary is determined according to location, experience, and internal benchmarks
- Eligible for equity and benefits
