Job Description
Job Title: Quantum Design Engineer. Location: Garching, Germany
Job Type: Full-time, on-site or hybrid
Responsibilities:
- Design and simulate superconducting qubits and multi-qubit circuits focusing on coherence, fidelity, and intrinsic error resilience
- Develop new architectures that reduce reliance on external error correction by embedding protection at the design level
- Analyze and benchmark decoherence mechanisms, minimizing loss, noise sensitivity, and crosstalk in circuit geometries;
- Extend design workflows using electromagnetic solvers such as Ansys HFSS or similar tools combined with circuit-level simulations
- Collaborate closely with fabrication and measurement engineers to translate designs into manufacturable quantum devices
- Iterate rapidly between simulation, fabrication, and measurement to improve device performance
- Document results and analyze experimental feedback to continuously refine designs
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or MSc with significant industry experience
- 3+ years of experience in superconducting quantum circuit design, including qubit layout, coupling, and signal routing
- Strong understanding of decoherence mechanisms and transmission line theory;
- Experience with RF and microwave components in quantum systems
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
Preferred:
- Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS, Sonnet, or similar
- Strong Python programming experience for simulation and modeling
- Experience designing coupling architectures and signal routing for multi-qubit systems;
- Familiarity with fabrication and measurement workflows in quantum hardware development
- Experience working in cross-functional research and engineering environments
