Job Description
Job Title: R&D Fabrication Engineer. Location: Garching, Germany
Job Type: Full-time, on-site (or hybrid)
Responsibilities:
- Design and refine fabrication workflows for superconducting quantum processors and error-protected qubit architectures
- Develop high-yield, reproducible processes including lithography, deposition, etching, and process control
- Improve device reliability by enhancing stability, throughput, and fabrication consistency;
- Translate research-based fabrication techniques into production-ready quantum hardware
- Work in cleanroom environments to build and test quantum device structures
- Collaborate with design, measurement, and system integration teams for end-to-end device development
- Analyze experimental results and apply data-driven process improvements
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field OR MSc with 3+ years industry experience
- Strong experience in cleanroom fabrication processes including e-beam or UV lithography
- Hands-on experience with thin-film deposition (PVD/sputtering), etching, and lift-off techniques
- At least 3 years of experience working with superconducting circuits;
- Strong understanding of process control, statistical analysis, and fabrication diagnostics
- Ability to work in collaborative and fast-paced R&D environments
Preferred:
- Experience in quantum hardware fabrication or qubit device development
- Experience improving fabrication yield or reducing device loss
- Exposure to superconducting quantum processor development workflows
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
