Job Description

Job Title: R&D Fabrication Engineer. Location: Garching, Germany

Job Type: Full-time, on-site (or hybrid)

Responsibilities:

  • Design and refine fabrication workflows for superconducting quantum processors and error-protected qubit architectures
  • Develop high-yield, reproducible processes including lithography, deposition, etching, and process control
  • Improve device reliability by enhancing stability, throughput, and fabrication consistency;
  • Translate research-based fabrication techniques into production-ready quantum hardware
  • Work in cleanroom environments to build and test quantum device structures
  • Collaborate with design, measurement, and system integration teams for end-to-end device development
  • Analyze experimental results and apply data-driven process improvements

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field OR MSc with 3+ years industry experience
  • Strong experience in cleanroom fabrication processes including e-beam or UV lithography
  • Hands-on experience with thin-film deposition (PVD/sputtering), etching, and lift-off techniques
  • At least 3 years of experience working with superconducting circuits;
  • Strong understanding of process control, statistical analysis, and fabrication diagnostics
  • Ability to work in collaborative and fast-paced R&D environments

Preferred:

  • Experience in quantum hardware fabrication or qubit device development
  • Experience improving fabrication yield or reducing device loss
  • Exposure to superconducting quantum processor development workflows
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
