Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist Intern, Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Santa Clara, CA, USA; Pasadena, CA, USA

This internship offers hands-on experience in quantum hardware and software, working alongside experts in superconducting qubits, quantum optics, and microwave engineering; The role provides exposure to cutting-edge research, access to advanced computing infrastructure, and mentorship from industry leaders.

Duties:

• Assist in the design, implementation, and testing of quantum processors and supporting hardware.
• Perform simulations and experiments involving superconducting qubits, cavity/circuit QED, and open quantum systems.
• Support benchmarking and quantum error correction research to improve system reliability;
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of physicists, materials scientists, and engineers to solve complex problems.
• Contribute to research papers, reports, and presentations on experimental and theoretical findings;
• Stay current with new developments in quantum computation and assist in translating research into scalable solutions.

Qualifications:

• Enrollment in a PhD program in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields during the internship.
• Familiarity with superconducting qubits, quantum optics, or microwave engineering.
• Knowledge of Python, R, MATLAB, or similar scripting languages;
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, innovative environment;
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and adaptability to evolving research challenges.
• Must be 18 years or older and able to relocate to the internship location.

• Base pay ranges from $136,000 to $212,800 per year, depending on location, plus potential equity, sign-on payments, and full benefits.
