Amazon is advancing quantum computing through its AWS division. In 2019, it launched Amazon Braket, a cloud service for designing and testing quantum algorithms, and built the AWS Center for Quantum Computing in California, where the goal is to build practical, fault-tolerant quantum computers. The platform supports multiple types of quantum hardware.
In 2025, Amazon unveiled its first quantum chip, Ocelot, which uses cat qubits. This design significantly lowers the costs of error correction and the chip marks a pivotal advance toward scalable quantum computing, something Amazon continues to invest in. The goal of large-scale, practical quantum computers still remains in the future.
