Research DevOps Engineer, Software Quantum

Job Description

Job Title: Research DevOps Engineer, Software, Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, CA, USA; San Francisco, CA, USA

You will work closely with scientists and engineers who design, test, and operate novel quantum devices, helping them move faster and more securely across cloud and lab systems.

Duties:

• Design and maintain standardized and reproducible development environments for research teams.
• Build and manage CI/CD pipelines to support fast testing and deployment of research software.
• Own dependency, build, and release management across multiple interdependent projects.
• Manage hybrid infrastructure that spans AWS cloud services and on-prem physical lab hardware.
• Automate system provisioning and configuration using infrastructure-as-code tools;
• Maintain high security standards while enabling rapid internal development.
• Implement monitoring and observability practices to support uptime and fast debugging.
• Support collaboration through clear documentation and mentorship for contributors.
• Translate scientific requirements into scalable and secure DevOps solutions.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience outside internships.
• Strong experience with Python or another modern programming language.
• Experience working in Linux or Unix environments.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and build systems.
• Experience using infrastructure-as-code for cloud service deployment;
• Familiarity with the full software development lifecycle from planning to maintenance.
• Experience working with scientists or in a research-focused environment is preferred.
• Knowledge of AWS services, DevSecOps practices, Kubernetes, or HPC is a plus.
• Background or exposure to quantum computing or experimental physics is an advantage.

Benefits and Instructions:

• Base salary ranges from $129,200 to $174,800 in Pasadena, CA, and $148,700 to $201,200 in San Francisco, CA.
