Job Title: System Software Developer - Performance. Location: Toronto, Canada
Responsibilities:
- Develop primitives and libraries enabling ultra-low-latency communication between CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, and other devices in distributed heterogeneous systems.
- Build high-performance software components that adapt to new hardware platforms and programming paradigms.
- Convert abstract algorithm descriptions into efficient and understandable software implementations.
- Develop benchmarking frameworks for compilation and execution pipelines.
- Track quantum resources throughout the software stack and develop profiling tools.
- Contribute to the PennyLane and Catalyst quantum software stack, including high-performance simulator components.
- Interpret and communicate complex technical concepts to the wider team;
- Participate in software specification, architecture, documentation, verification, validation, and quality assurance.
- Support software best practices including continuous integration, unit testing, and code reviews.
- Develop software that makes efficient use of quantum hardware resources and supports high-performance quantum computing applications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with low-level networking or systems programming, including networking, low-latency communication such as RDMA, concurrency, high-performance libraries, or operating system internals.
- Proficiency in C++ (C++17/20 preferred) and Python.
- Strong understanding of computer architecture, including CPUs, GPUs, and memory hierarchy;
- Hands-on experience optimizing code for runtime and memory efficiency using professional profiling tools such as perf, scalene, or valgrind.
- Ability to rapidly diagnose and resolve complex issues across compiled and interpreted environments using industry-standard debuggers.
Preferred:
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience with code parallelization and accelerators, including multithreading, OpenMP, C++ threads, multiprocessing, MPI, GPUs, CUDA, HIP/ROCm, or compiler offload directives.
- Experience designing and implementing scalable and reproducible scientific workloads on HPC, supercomputer, or cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Expertise in quantum computing demonstrated through coursework, a thesis, or peer-reviewed publications.
- Experience writing complex quantum workflows and optimizing quantum resource usage.
- Experience working with PennyLane or similar quantum software frameworks.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Base salary of CAD 120,000 to CAD 160,000 per year, depending on location, experience, and internal benchmarks.
