Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Software Developer - Compilation. Location: Toronto, Canada

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain JIT and AOT hybrid compilation pipelines for PennyLane.
• Convert abstract algorithm descriptions into efficient and understandable software implementations.
• Conduct R&D supporting new hardware platforms, programming paradigms, and software tools for quantum computing workloads.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to the wider team;
• Participate in software specification, architecture, documentation, verification, and validation.
• Lead software best practices including continuous integration, unit testing, documentation, and code reviews.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years of development experience with modern optimizing compilers across different architectures.
• Strong knowledge of Python and C++;
• Experience with benchmarking and performance-oriented optimization.
• Strong focus on software testing and quality.

Preferred:

• Experience developing projects with MLIR and/or LLVM.
• Understanding of advanced compiler optimization techniques.
• Familiarity with automatic differentiation methods and frameworks such as Autograd, Torch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
• Education or training in quantum computing through work experience, coursework, a thesis, or peer-reviewed publications.
• Experience developing toolkits, compilers, or runtime environments for heterogeneous architectures.

Benefits and Compensation:

• Base salary: CAD $120,000 to $160,000 annually.
• Base salary is determined based on location, experience, and internal benchmarks.
