Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Research Scientist Intern, Device and Architecture Theory, AWS Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

As a Quantum Research Scientist Intern in the Device and Architecture Theory group, you will conduct theoretical research to guide the development of next-generation quantum processors. Your work may focus on device physics of superconducting circuits, novel qubits and gate schemes, and physical implementations of error-correcting codes. You will collaborate with both theorists and experimentalists to explore these areas and contribute to cutting-edge quantum computing innovations. Daily tasks include problem-solving, analyzing data, performing simulations, and participating in cross-team projects to develop new quantum computing approaches.

Qualifications:

• Enrolled in a PhD program in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field
• Research experience in quantum physics, including quantum computing, communication, sensing, condensed matter, or atomic, molecular, and optical physics
• Proficiency in a scientific programming environment
• Able to work 40 hours/week and commit to a 12-week internship
• Eligible to work in the U.S. per export control regulations

Preferred:

• Familiarity with quantum error correction, including qubit codes or bosonic codes
• Experience with numerical simulations of quantum systems
• Track record of impactful research in superconducting qubits, cavity/circuit QED, quantum optics, or related areas
• Experience collaborating across teams and supporting experimental projects

Benefits and Compensation:

Starting pay: $136,000 - $184,000 USD annually (pro-rated for internship length)
