Job Title: Research Intern - Quantum Algorithms. Location: Redmond, Washington, USA

Job Type:

• Internship, hybrid with 3 days per week in-office
• 12-week internship

Responsibilities:

• Conduct research on quantum algorithms and/or quantum information protocols for fault-tolerant quantum computers.
• Design efficient quantum circuits for algorithmic primitives.
• Study the complexity of concrete problem instances and asymptotic behavior.
• Explore potential applications in areas such as quantum simulation and communication.
• Collaborate with doctoral candidates, researchers, mentors, and other Research Interns;
• Present research findings and contribute to research and development activities.
• Participate in the broader research community throughout the internship.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a Doctorate Degree program in Mathematics, Natural Sciences, or a related field.
• Research Interns must be physically located at their manager's Microsoft worksite for the duration of the internship.
• Submit at least two reference letters, a cover letter, and relevant work or research samples;
• Applicants may wish to notify their reference writers in advance so they are prepared to submit letters.
• Reference letters cannot be requested until after the application is submitted and may not be automatically requested for every candidate.

Preferred:

• PhD research focused on quantum information and computation.

Benefits and Compensation:

• Base pay: $6,810 to $13,480 per month.
• For specific work locations in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area, the range is $8,920 to $14,610 per month.
• Certain roles may include additional benefits and compensation;
• Internship opportunities are offered year-round and typically begin in the summer.

Other Information:

• Microsoft accepts applications and processes offers throughout the academic calendar, from September through April.
• The position will remain open for at least 5 days and applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
