Job Description

Job Title: Sr. Security Engineer, AWS Center for Quantum Computing. Location: CA, Pasadena, WA, Seattle - USA

The role focuses on protecting quantum research facilities, cloud infrastructure, and sensitive equipment; You will lead security initiatives, define policies, and ensure a secure yet flexible environment for scientists and engineers advancing quantum technologies.

Duties:

• Develop and maintain a threat model and comprehensive security plan for R&D spaces.
• Lead security projects and initiatives to mitigate risks across physical and cloud environments;
• Work with internal stakeholders, academic, and corporate partners to maintain AWS security standards.
• Conduct periodic reviews of software baselines, network activity, and third-party applications.
• Maintain detailed inventories of sensitive hardware and software.
• Audit equipment and software before deployment in development or production environments.
• Educate teams on security policies and best practices;
• Support both tactical day-to-day operations and strategic security program planning.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional experience in security engineering, scientific research, or R&D environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Informatics, or related field. Advanced degrees preferred.
• Hands-on experience with security lifecycle activities, including threat modeling, risk analysis, design review, and testing.
• Strong knowledge of adversary techniques, threat detection, response, and recovery;
• Experience with scripting, programming, and security code review in common languages, including Python.
• Ability to develop and deliver security awareness training for technical and business professionals;
• Familiarity with access control systems, physical security, and lab or data center security oversight.
• U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or eligibility for U.S. export license is required.

• Base salary range: $143,300–$247,600 per year depending on location and experience, plus potential equity, sign-on bonuses, and full benefits.
