Job Description

Job Title: Sr. Research Scientist , Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, CA, USA

You will design experiments, collect and analyze data, and work with hardware, materials & circuit teams to reduce noise sources that limit quantum device reliability; This position requires deep knowledge of device fabrication, cleanroom processes, and advanced metrology tools.

Duties:

  • Design experiments to identify and measure noise sources impacting qubit dynamics.
  • Collect statistically meaningful datasets using automated systems;
  • Analyze results and prepare clear summaries for internal teams.
  • Work with hardware engineers, materials scientists, and circuit designers to implement improvements.
  • Conduct fabrication and measurement workflows in a cleanroom environment;
  • Manage multiple fabrication tasks and operate advanced lithography and etching tools.
  • Use metrology tools such as AFM, SEM, XPS, and profilometry to characterize device structures.
  • Evaluate thin film deposition processes and related device fabrication steps.
  • Support process optimization, failure analysis, and root cause investigations;
  • Stay current with the latest developments in experimental quantum computing.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD with several years of research experience in a relevant field.
  • Broad knowledge of fabrication and measurement techniques, including electron beam lithography, photolithography, etching, thin film deposition, wafer cleaning, and lift-off.
  • At least five years of cleanroom experience;
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor and thin film metrology tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently or in collaborative teams.
  • Strong engineering mindset and strong communication skills.
  • Preferred experience with superconducting quantum computing components and fabrication.
  • Preferred experience with MATLAB, R, Python, or similar scripting tools;
  • Experience with electroplating, wafer thinning, CMP, bonding, packaging, and 2.5D/3D integration.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, design of experiments, and process control.

  • Base pay ranges from $143,300 to $247,600 depending on geographic market and experience.
  • Additional compensation may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and other financial incentives.
