Rolls-Royce is actively exploring quantum technology to solve complex aerospace problems that are difficult for classical computers to handle efficiently. Rolls Royce's primary focus is the industrial applicability of quantum computing. Some work they are doing includes hybrid quantum computing and classical computational fluid dynamics, quantum engine simulation, quantum material discovery, and quantum optimization.

To make their efforts a reality, Rolls-Royce has already partnered with quantum computing companies Xanadu and Riverlane. They have also done work with NVIDIA and research with Quantinuum. These partnerships aim to begin designing early-application, fault-tolerant quantum computers that will improve jet engine simulation and optimize quantum computing for future engineering workflows.
