Applied Physics and Electro-Optics Intern

Job Description

Job Title: Applied Physics and Electro-Optics Intern. Location: Yokneam, Israel

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and test QKD and other optical laboratory setups
• Assemble fiber-based electro-optical systems and components
• Test and characterize electro-optical components and Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs)
• Prepare laboratory measurement reports and technical documentation;
• Evaluate emerging optical and quantum technologies for practical applications
• Support research activities related to secure quantum communications and post-quantum technologies

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in an MSc or PhD program in Electro-Optics, Quantum Optics, Physics, or a related field
• Hands-on laboratory experience with free-space or fiber-optic systems and measurement equipment
• Understanding of electro-optical components and their operating principles
• At least 2 to 3 years remaining before graduation;
• Available to work at least 50% of a full-time schedule at the Yokneam laboratory
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar data analysis tools
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently with initiative and motivation

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with quantum optics and QKD protocols
• Understanding of optical detection methods and detectors, including SPADs and coherent detection systems;
• Experience with electro-optic components such as modulators, variable optical attenuators (VOA), polarization correction methods, fiber coupling, and RF probing techniques
• Experience working with advanced laboratory optical measurement setups
