Finance Manager, Capital Planning

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Finance Manager, Capital Planning & Management. Location:Chicago, Illinois, Milpitas, California, United States

Responsibilities:

  • Lead financial planning and governance for capital investments across engineering, R&D, operations, facilities, and IT.
  • Design and maintain capital planning frameworks, approval workflows, and funding models.
  • Develop policies and controls for capital requests, project approvals, and expenditure tracking.
  • Manage financial planning for semiconductor equipment, advanced computing systems, laboratories, and specialized facilities.
  • Partner with engineering teams to evaluate investments in quantum computing infrastructure, tooling, test equipment, and cryogenic systems.
  • Build forecasting and scenario models for long-term technology investments
  • Prepare short-term and long-term capital expenditure forecasts.
  • Oversee purchase order approvals, vendor commitments, milestone payments, and spending accuracy.
  • Identify financial risks, budget overruns, and schedule changes while recommending mitigation plans.
  • Support accounting activities related to fixed assets, capitalization, depreciation, construction-in-progress (CIP), and asset management under US GAAP.
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment for lab equipment, prototypes, tooling, wafers, masks, cryogenic infrastructure, and specialized software.
  • Partner with leadership to convert complex engineering projects into executive-level financial reports.
  • Improve ERP systems and financial processes for capital project tracking and reporting.

Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or capital planning roles.
  • Experience supporting semiconductor, advanced hardware, electronics, or other capital-intensive industries.
  • Strong knowledge of capital expenditure accounting, fixed assets, CIP, and long-lived assets.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite or a comparable ERP system.
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • MBA preferred.
  • Experience building scalable financial controls and governance processes during rapid company growth.
  • Experience partnering with engineering and technical teams on complex capital projects.

Benefits And Compensation:

  • Annual base salary of $155,000 to $178,000 (U.S. locations outside the Bay Area).
  • Annual base salary of $195,000 to $205,000 (Bay Area).
