PsiQuantum is a US company building a fault-tolerant quantum computer using light and silicon to solve real-world problems.
About
Unlike other quantum technologies that require very low temperatures; PsiQuantum is developing quantum computers that use light particles, called photonic qubits. This means they can operate at room temperature. They use standard silicon photonics to fabricate their chips, which is a technology that is already widely used in the electronics industry. PsiQuantum is working with GlobalFoundries, the largest semiconductor fabrication company, to expand their chip production capabilities. GlobalFoundries is one of the few quantum companies that can offer industrial-scale production, thanks to their 300 mm CMOS production facility which houses advanced industrial equipment.
PsiQuantum aims to construct a quantum computer with around a million qubits that is also fault-tolerant. This milestone is seen as the gateway to solving advanced challenges like complex drug synthesis, advanced chemistry, and various optimization problems. PsiQuantum has the largest investment in the quantum sector of $750 million, with investors like BlackRock and the US and Australian governments. PsiQuantum has a target date of the next 10 years for the delivery of its first quantum computer.
PsiQuantum is in a strong position in the quantum computing industry because it combines industrial manufacturing with photonic qubit technologies. The company has a new strategy using this technology to tackle large-scale real-world problems.
