Job Title: Senior Quantum Applications Architect. Location: Daresbury, England, United Kingdom
Responsibilities:
- Lead research and development of quantum algorithms designed for fault-tolerant quantum computers.
- Contribute to research programs that advance the state of the art in quantum algorithm design.
- Work with external partners to instantiate, validate, and optimize quantum algorithms for applications in life sciences, industry, and sustainability.
- Establish families of benchmarks and problem instances to evaluate the post-classical capabilities of quantum algorithms.
- Guide simulation and analysis of resource requirements for fault-tolerant implementations on photonic quantum computers.
- Translate computational tasks into abstract quantum algorithm specifications;
- Analyze algorithmic and asymptotic performance.
- Define meaningful problem instances that are beyond the practical reach of classical computation.
- Work with compilation teams to develop explicit implementations and evaluate resource requirements.
- Lead broader research programs involving researchers and external collaborators.
- Contribute to initiatives spanning applications, architecture, and compilation.
- Lead projects with industrial and research partners and communicate across different technical disciplines.
- Guide projects from application identification through to concrete fault-tolerant algorithms and detailed resource estimates.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of research experience in quantum computing, with a focus on algorithms and applications.
- Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or an equivalent field.
- PhD in Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science, with a focus on quantum information theory or quantum computation, is preferred.
- Experience with quantum algorithms and compiling in the fault-tolerant gate regime is preferred.
- Experience working with academic or industry partners on real-world quantum applications is preferred.
- Strong ability to work across departments, locations, and time zones;
- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving startup environment.
- Programming experience in Python, C++, or similar languages.
- Strong technical expertise, scientific leadership, intellectual independence, and collaborative skills.
Compensation:
- Base salary: £78,900 to £92,900 GBP.
- Full-time employees are eligible for equity and benefits.
- Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, education, experience, geographic location, and business needs.
