Job Description

Job Title: Student Researcher, PhD, Winter-Summer 2027. Location:

  • Waterloo, ON, Canada; Toronto, ON, Canada
  • Candidates must be located in Canada throughout the engagement, although select remote arrangements from Canada or the United States may be available depending on project requirements.

Job Type:

  • Research fellowship
  • Start dates are typically between January and August 2027.
  • Flexible weekly commitment, project duration, and onsite/remote arrangements depending on the project.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in research to develop solutions for real-world, large-scale problems.
  • Collaborate on exploratory research projects addressing innovative research challenges.
  • Support the development of technologies that advance scientific research.
  • Work with research teams across Google, including DeepMind, Google Research, and Google Cloud.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Linguistics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Natural Sciences, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated research focus.
  • Experience in an area of computer science such as Natural Language Understanding, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization, Quantum Information Science, Data Science, or Software Development.
  • Candidates must provide an updated CV or resume with their anticipated graduation date in MM/YY format.
  • Current unofficial or official transcript in English, preferably PDF;
  • Research publications, specialized lab work, or significant research contributions are highly recommended.

Preferred:

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and planning to return to the program after the engagement.
  • Currently attending a degree program in Canada.
  • Research experience through internships, full-time research, or laboratory work;
  • Experience with general-purpose programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C, or C++.
  • Contributions to research communities, including published papers in major conferences or journals.

  • CAD $120,000 with a 0% bonus target.
