Job Description

Job Title: Senior System Design Engineer. Location: Milpitas, California, United States

Responsibilities:

• Define design requirements for boxes that meet system architecture specifications.
• Lead the design, development, and qualification of boxes, working with cross-functional teams to execute designs.
• Serve as both the box design lead and Technical Program Manager (TPM) to deliver working box designs.
• Develop a deep understanding of system functionality, photonic integrated circuit (PIC) and electronic integrated circuit (EIC) functionality, thermal requirements, and fiber network requirements for current and future systems;
• Define test specifications and work closely with Build Process and Validation teams.
• Use Python scripting and Controls Software APIs or drivers to control laboratory equipment and proprietary systems.
• Adapt to new challenges and develop new skills according to project requirements.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

• M.S. or PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience.
• 5+ years of experience designing, validating, and testing electro-optic systems.
• Expertise in cross-functional product development;
• Experience designing fiber optic systems, working with photonic integrated circuits (PICs), and fiber networking.
• Proven experience delivering electro-optic products to production.
• Experience integrating products into complex systems.
• Experience with optical test equipment, including power meters, optical backscatter reflectometers (OBR), and optical spectrum analyzers (OSA).
• Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
• Strong critical thinking, creative, innovative, analytical, and detail-oriented problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Experience with vacuum systems.
• Experience with optical simulations.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Zone 1, Bay Area and NYC: $167,800 to $197,200 USD annually.
• Zone 2, including Los Angeles and Washington, DC: $151,100 to $177,500 USD annually.
• Zone 3, including Austin, Chicago, and Sacramento: $134,300 to $157,800 USD annually.
• Zone 4, including Nashville, Phoenix/Tempe, and many remote locations: $117,500 to $138,000 USD annually.
