Cyrostat Technician

Job Description

Job Title: Cryostat Technician. Location: Toronto, Canada

Responsibilities:

• Support the assembly, setup, and testing of new cryostats for photon detector systems.

• Operate and assist in testing cryogenic systems, including helium-4 evaporator-based systems, performing routine maintenance, performance logging, and troubleshooting.

• Work with cryogenic liquid and gas systems to achieve optimized cooling requirements;

• Assist in maintaining and operating large-scale cryogenic facilities to ensure safe and efficient gas and liquid recovery.

• Collaborate with scientific and engineering teams to support ongoing detector characterization and testing.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, a Technical or Engineering Technology diploma, or a closely related field, with 2 to 3 years of hands-on cryogenics experience.

• Practical experience assembling, testing, or assisting with cryostat operations.

• CAD experience for mechanical part design or 3D printing, such as SolidWorks.

• Hands-on experience operating cryostats, including cooldowns, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

• Knowledge and experience with high-vacuum systems for cryogenic applications.

• Experience handling and distributing liquid cryogens.

• Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines on complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

• Detail-oriented with a positive attitude toward work.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred:

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in a cryogenic laboratory or industrial environment.

• Hands-on experience handling and mounting silicon chips.

• Experience with fiber handling and routing.

• Experience writing Python code.

Salary and benefits:

• Base salary: CAD 90,000 to CAD 120,000 per year, depending on location, experience, and internal benchmarks.

• Eligible for equity and benefits.
