Cryostat Equipment Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Cryostat Equipment Engineer. Location: Milpitas, California, United States

Responsibilities:

  • Install and commission quantum computing cryostats, including mechanical, electrical, and control subsystem integration
  • Operate and maintain high-vacuum and ultra-high-vacuum systems, including pumps, gauges, valves, and leak detection equipment
  • Develop and execute commissioning procedures, acceptance tests, and system validation protocols
  • Monitor cryostat performance, diagnose faults, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance;
  • Interface with instrumentation systems, including temperature sensors, pressure transducers, flow controllers, and data acquisition systems
  • Collaborate with quantum hardware, facilities, controls, and safety teams to ensure reliable system operation
  • Maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, maintenance logs, procedures, and system modifications
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency;
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards for cryogens, vacuum systems, and high-voltage equipment

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on experience with high-vacuum or ultra-high-vacuum systems;
  • Experience installing, commissioning, and maintaining complex laboratory or industrial equipment
  • Familiarity with cryogenic systems, including dilution refrigerators, liquid helium systems, or closed-cycle cryocoolers
  • Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics

Preferred:

  • Experience working with cryostats in quantum computing, superconducting systems, or low-temperature physics environments
  • Knowledge of vacuum system design, helium leak detection, and materials compatibility
  • Familiarity with PLCs, LabVIEW, or similar control platforms
  • Experience working in cleanroom or semiconductor environments
  • Advanced degree in a relevant engineering or scientific field

Benefits And Compensation:

  • U.S. base salary of $110,000 to $120,000 per year
  • Bay Area salary of $128,000 to $145,000 per year, where applicable
