Job Description

Job Title: Intern, System Architecture. Location: Daresbury, England, United Kingdom - Palo Alto, California, United States, Remote

Job Type: Internship (3 to 6 months)

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to ongoing optical architecture research and development projects
• Develop prototype software to control and simulate optical networks within photonic quantum computers
• Apply quantum information theory, network design, and optimization techniques to improve optical architecture
• Research and develop new approaches to photonic quantum computing;
• Simulate and benchmark quantum protocols
• Document technical work and communicate research findings to the team

Qualifications:

• Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a postgraduate degree, with PhD candidates preferred
• Experience programming in Python, C++, Julia, or similar languages;
• Strong analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

Preferred:

• Knowledge of quantum optics, photonic hardware, switch network design, optimization, or graph theory
• Experience using collaborative software development tools such as GitHub
• Ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical quantum technologies

Benefits And Compensation:

• Internship duration of 3 to 6 months
• U.S. hourly pay ranges from $27.50 to $47.00, depending on education level, with a housing or commuter stipend based on permanent residency
• UK hourly pay ranges from £15 to £27, with annualized salaries between £31,200 and £56,160, depending on education level
