Quantum Applications Architect

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Applications Architect. Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop techniques for quantum algorithms designed for fault-tolerant quantum computers.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and benchmarking of quantum applications and the tools required to build and evaluate them.
  • Work with external partners and internal teams to instantiate, validate, and optimize quantum algorithms for use cases across domains such as life sciences and sustainability.
  • Simulate and analyze resource requirements for fault-tolerant implementations of quantum algorithms on photonic quantum computing systems.
  • Collaborate with the quantum architecture group to co-optimize algorithmic approaches with architectural design.
  • Discover and evaluate the performance of new quantum applications;
  • Build quantum applications and algorithms both before large-scale hardware is available and during its operation.
  • Stay informed about the best classical solutions for the applications being investigated.
  • Work closely with applications architects, solutions experts, external partners, and software and compilation teams to understand requirements and hardware capabilities.
  • Use co-developed tooling to support the commercial development of quantum applications.
  • Contribute to identifying new quantum application use cases and novel algorithmic techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or an equivalent field, such as an MSc or PhD.
  • Significant research experience in quantum algorithms, compilation, complexity, or quantum applications.
  • Experience with quantum algorithms or compilation in the fault-tolerant gate regime is preferred.
  • Results-driven approach, ideally with experience in a high-throughput, rapid-delivery environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work effectively across departments, locations, and time zones.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with both internal teams and external partners.
