Materials Scientist II

Job Description

Job Title: Materials Scientist II. Location: Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Perform failure analysis of superconducting chips manufactured in CMOS fabrication facilities using TEM and FIB-SEM techniques
  • Select and apply appropriate materials characterization methods, including Raman, IR, XPS, EDS, EELS, XRD, AES, AFM, and related techniques
  • Analyze and interpret characterization data using knowledge of crystallography, atomic-scale material structures, material defects, and imaging artifacts
  • Collaborate with device physicists and fabrication engineers to investigate fabrication and material defects affecting circuit performance
  • Design and conduct experiments to support processor development and materials research;
  • Document and communicate experimental findings to the processor development team
  • Evaluate new materials systems, fabrication stacks, and design of experiment results using scientific literature and modeling
  • Coordinate packaging sample preparation, tracking, and troubleshooting of packaging and materials-related issues
  • Work closely with engineering, applications development, intellectual property, and marketing teams on materials-related projects

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related science or engineering discipline
  • Strong hands-on experience with FIB-SEM and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS)
  • Strong technical problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Experience conducting independent research in materials science
  • Ability to quickly learn new technical concepts and methods;
  • Experience using software for modeling or data fitting
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and adapt to changing priorities

Preferred:

  • Experience with TEM, XRD, XPS, or FTIR characterization techniques
  • Experience performing failure analysis of microelectronics
  • Experience with noise models and characterization methods

Benefits And Compensation:

  • Base salary of CAD $82,909 to CAD $124,364 per year
