Job Description

Job Title: Senior Math Libraries Engineer - Direct Sparse Solvers. Location:

  • Santa Clara, California, USA
  • Remote, US

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and optimize direct sparse solvers for current and future GPU architectures.
  • Develop algorithms and kernels for direct sparse linear system solvers.
  • Work with library engineers, QA engineers, and interns across library development, from design and implementation through testing, release, and support.
  • Collaborate with product management and internal and external partners to understand feature and performance requirements.
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps for mathematical and sparse linear algebra libraries;
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve library quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Re-architect software and introduce innovative software development practices where appropriate.
  • Work on GPU-accelerated libraries and SDKs supporting applications including computer-aided engineering, electronic design automation, optimization, quantum chemistry, autonomous vehicles, and large language models.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Computational Science and Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related science or engineering field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing, debugging, and optimizing high-performance numerical software.
  • Strong experience with C++ and parallel programming.
  • Experience with CUDA, MPI, OpenMP, OpenACC, pthreads, or equivalent technologies.
  • Strong understanding of floating-point arithmetic and numerical analysis;
  • Knowledge of sparse linear algebra primitives, including matrix-vector products, matrix-matrix products, and triangular solves.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and testing scientific computing libraries.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with direct solver techniques such as reordering, multifrontal factorizations, supernodal factorizations, numerical pivoting strategies, and iterative refinement.
  • Knowledge of CPU and/or GPU hardware architecture and low-level GPU performance optimization.
  • Experience with modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD systems.
  • Experience with project management tools such as JIRA.
  • Experience working with AI agents.
  • Understanding of large-scale computing technologies, including PDE solvers, eigenvalue solvers, and time-domain simulation methods such as CFD and FEA.
  • Experience working in a globally distributed and agile organization.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Level 4 base salary: $184,000 to $287,500 per year.
  • Level 5 base salary: $224,000 to $356,500 per year.
  • Eligibility for equity and benefits;
  • Actual base salary depends on location, experience, and compensation for comparable positions.
