Job Description
Job Title: Process Integration Engineer - BEOL. Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Remote within North America may be considered)
Responsibilities:
- Define, develop, and implement BEOL process integration flows for photonic quantum computing hardware.
- Refine BEOL fabrication processes with internal and external photonics process engineers;
- Collaborate with FEOL integration and packaging teams to ensure compatibility across hardware systems.
- Partner with semiconductor and photonics foundries to improve fabrication processes and integration schemes.
- Develop and execute metrology and failure analysis plans to identify and resolve process issues.
- Deliver integrated photonic chips containing active and passive quantum components.
- Drive innovation in photonic process development and integrated photonics manufacturing.
- Stay current with advancements in photonics fabrication and process integration technologies.
- Travel up to 25% as required.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Photonics, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in photonics or semiconductor fabrication with expertise in BEOL process integration.
- Experience working in semiconductor or integrated photonics foundries and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
- Proven experience developing and implementing BEOL integration schemes for photonic or semiconductor devices;
- Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes, including areas such as RDL processing, advanced packaging, and passivation.
- Familiarity with metrology and failure analysis techniques, including SEM, TEM, AFM, defect inspection, ellipsometry, XRR/XRD, SIMS, or Raman spectroscopy.
- Understanding of photonic components such as waveguides, beamsplitters, resonators, and MZIs.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred:
- At least 8 years of experience in photonics chip fabrication.
- At least 3 years of experience in BEOL photonics process integration.
- Experience developing Cu/Au electroplating processes for heterogeneous photonic platforms.
- Experience managing products from research through high-volume manufacturing.
- Experience working with semiconductor and photonics foundry partners;
- Experience developing photonic quantum computing hardware.
- Experience with BEOL tool procurement.
- Proven record of delivering finished integrated photonics products.
- Experience working in fabless companies.
