Quantum Engineer, Integrated Circuit Design

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quantum Engineer, Quantum Integrated Circuit Design. Location: Berkeley, CA or Fremont, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

• Design, layout, and simulate superconducting microwave integrated circuits for quantum processors
• Optimize on-chip signal delivery including routing, filtering, and multiplexing
• Perform full-wave electromagnetic simulations using finite element tools to model quantum devices
• Engineer coupling and mode profiles of resonant structures for improved device performance;
• Translate quantum Hamiltonians into integrated circuit layouts using Python-based tools
• Analyze simulation and experimental results to identify and reduce loss and crosstalk
• Collaborate with fabrication and experimental teams to develop new quantum processor architectures

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
• 3+ years of experience in quantum hardware or related engineering fields
• Strong knowledge of circuit QED and superconducting qubit systems;
• Experience in microwave engineering and resonant structure design
• Experience working in collaborative R&D environments
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

• Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools (HFSS, COMSOL, CST)
• Experience with 2D CAD layout tools and GDS file formats
• Programming experience in Python for scientific or engineering applications
• Understanding of semiconductor fabrication for superconducting qubits
• Experience with automated layout tools like gdspy;
• Contributions to open-source scientific software
• Strong mathematical background in linear algebra and numerical methods
• Startup or fast-paced research environment experience

• Salary range: $175,000 – $205,000 per year
