Quantum OS System Architect

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum OS System Architect. Location: British Columbia, Canada

Responsibilities:

• Provide architectural leadership for the end-to-end design of a high-performance quantum operating system that manages distributed runtime control and resource allocation for quantum circuits;
• Define and drive runtime control specifications, integrating hardware (including FPGA and embedded systems) with software components.
• Develop robust interfaces and APIs to enable efficient communication between embedded control systems and adjacent hardware and software.
• Identify, model, and evaluate opportunities for performance optimization across Photonic’s quantum compute stack.

Qualifications:

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
• 10+ years of experience in embedded system design and distributed system network architecture. Experience in quantum computing, high-performance computing, high-frequency trading, or particle physics is a plus.
• Experience with sub-microsecond time synchronization in distributed systems.
• Familiarity with real-time system design and RTOS environments;
• Broad expertise across the technology stack, including FPGA hardware simulation/design tools, systems programming (C, C++, Rust), and high-level languages (Python).
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical challenges and innovate in rapidly evolving domains.

Preferred:

• Experience with distributed quantum computing platforms or optical qubit systems.
• Background in high-connectivity or entanglement-first quantum architectures.
