Qubit Characterization Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Qubit Characterization Engineer. Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States

Responsibilities:

  • Characterize superconducting qubits and devices using cryogenic measurements, including coherence, relaxation, spectroscopy, and two-qubit gate performance.
  • Develop and execute measurement experiments using RF and microwave instrumentation.
  • Operate dilution refrigerators and automated data-acquisition systems.
  • Analyze experimental data to identify device and process limitations;
  • Troubleshoot complex experimental systems.
  • Collaborate with fabrication, design, and software teams to diagnose device performance issues.
  • Help improve qubit yield and quality.
  • Translate characterization results into actionable hardware improvements.
  • Communicate experimental results effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with experimental quantum hardware, microwave/RF measurements, or cryogenic systems.
  • Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis;
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex experimental systems and communicate results effectively.

Preferred:

  • Experience characterizing superconducting qubits and/or microwave devices.
  • Experience with spectroscopy, T1/T2 coherence measurements, resonator measurements, and qubit performance analysis.
  • Basic proficiency with AI/ML tools for data analysis, experiment automation, troubleshooting, and engineering workflows.
  • Familiarity with Python-based AI/ML libraries or generative AI assistants.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Projected salary range: $85,000 to $160,000 per year.
