Job Title: Senior Process Technician, Packaging

Location:

  • College Park, Maryland, USA
  • Five-minute walk from the Metro
  • Approximately 80% of the workday is spent in the cleanroom

Job Type:

  • Full-time
  • On-site, five days per week
  • Standard weekday schedule
  • Overtime as needed, but minimal
  • Travel: less than 5%

Responsibilities:

  • Execute released procedures to clean, assemble, bond, inspect, and test packaged ion traps and related quick-turn hardware.
  • Operate complex packaging equipment personally.
  • Handle small, fragile, high-value components under a microscope with steady hands and careful attention.
  • Perform incoming inspection and accurately record results.
  • Complete travelers, work orders, and discrepancy reports.
  • Collect process and test data and provide first-pass interpretation.
  • Identify trends and anomalies and report them to the engineering team;
  • Stop work and escalate when actual conditions differ from established procedures.
  • Draft recipe or program adjustments within engineer-defined limits.
  • Support daily cleanroom operations, including 5S, cleaning equipment and workspaces, restocking consumables, and preparing parts for work orders.
  • Complete training and qualification on approximately 7 to 8 critical packaging processes during the first six months, including precision cleaning, epoxy and assembly work, die bonding, wire bonding, reflow, plasma cleaning, inspection, and testing.

Qualifications:

  • Approximately 2+ years of hands-on experience in a high-tech manufacturing, laboratory, or precision-assembly environment.
  • Relevant backgrounds may include semiconductor, photonics, RF, medical device, aerospace, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated fine motor skills when working with small components.
  • Professional microscope experience, microelectronics rework, or comparable precision handcraft experience.
  • Ability to accurately read and follow blueprints, specifications, and operating procedures;
  • Good judgment to stop work when procedures and actual conditions do not agree.
  • Comfortable spending approximately 80% of the workday in a fully gowned cleanroom performing physical and sometimes repetitive work.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to remain focused on hardware production schedules.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

  • Experience operating and troubleshooting automated equipment such as wire bonders, die-attach or pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, epoxy dispense systems, or metrology tools.
  • Experience working in an ISO Class 6 or cleaner gowned cleanroom.
  • Two-year technical degree or higher.
  • Experience with ERP, PLM, or MES systems, including NetSuite, Duro, or Jira.
  • Experience with cryogenic or ultra-high-vacuum hardware.

  • Base salary: $79,040 to $120,640 USD per year.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended cleanroom gowning.
  • Standing and microscope work for long periods.

  • Regular handling of solvents and epoxies while using appropriate PPE.

Hiring Process:

  • Includes an in-person, hands-on bench evaluation at the College Park facility.
  • Employment is subject to applicable background, risk, export control, and government contract requirements.
