SVP, Development & Engineering

Job Description

Job Title: SVP, Development and Engineering. Location: British Columbia, Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and scale multidisciplinary engineering teams across hardware, integrated photonics, software, and scientific disciplines
  • Establish engineering planning frameworks, execution cadence, decision-making processes, and accountability models
  • Align engineering and scientific teams to achieve end-to-end execution from research through technical milestone delivery
  • Own company-wide engineering delivery, ensuring teams are properly staffed and organized to meet project timelines
  • Build, hire, structure, and develop senior engineering leadership;
  • Introduce execution discipline, quality standards, and program rigor while maintaining innovation
  • Identify and resolve cross-functional risks involving system integration, architecture, and scalability
  • Partner with the executive team to align engineering priorities with company strategy

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading large, multidisciplinary engineering organizations through senior leaders
  • Track record of scaling engineering teams from advanced R&D to product-focused execution
  • Strong leadership experience managing VP-level engineering teams
  • Experience delivering complex cross-functional engineering programs;
  • Ability to lead effectively in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments
  • Strong operational mindset with focus on execution, accountability, and organizational effectiveness
  • Experience using AI/LLM tools for analytics, reporting, and decision support while understanding validation and data governance
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Experience in quantum computing, semiconductors, photonics, or other deep-tech industries
  • Experience building engineering organizations from early-stage research through commercial scale
  • Strong judgment in balancing organizational structure with innovation
