Job Description
Job Title: Optical Engineer (Ph.D. / Early Career). Location: British Columbia, Canada
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to optical design and validation workflows, including modeling and testing methodologies
- Support the specification and modeling of optical link architectures
- Develop fiber-based electro-optical assemblies and optical sub-systems using advanced photonic technologies
- Perform optical characterization, testing, and data analysis to validate system performance;
- Track technical metrics such as stability, reliability, environmental robustness, and noise sensitivity
- Collaborate with integrated photonics and quantum systems teams for cross-functional alignment
- Support telemetry and control systems for monitoring and optimizing optical parameters
- Evaluate new optical component technologies and contribute to innovation initiatives
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Optics, Engineering, Engineering Physics, or related field
- Strong background in fiber-based optical systems, preferably in C-band or O-band technologies
- Experience with optical modeling, simulation, and data analysis tools
- Hands-on experience with optical test instrumentation and laboratory measurements
- Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages for automation and analysis;
- Ability to translate research concepts into practical prototype systems
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in multidisciplinary environments
Preferred:
- Experience transitioning research systems into scalable or manufacturable solutions
- Familiarity with CAD and modeling tools such as SolidWorks, Lumerical, or Altium;
- Exposure to intellectual property development or technology commercialization
- Experience working in startup or fast-growth research environments

- Base salary range: CAD $94,200 to $130,000 annually
