Job Description

Job Title: Optical Packaging & Assembly Engineer. Location: British Columbia, Canada

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement optical packaging and assembly processes for integrated photonic quantum devices
• Perform high-precision active optical alignment to maximize coupling efficiency and stability
• Design, validate, and optimize alignment methods, tooling, and assembly processes;
• Build and maintain validation plans and characterize optical performance under real operating conditions
• Define scalable workflows, SOPs, and process controls for consistent manufacturing output
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) with cross-functional engineering teams;
• Develop assembly stations integrating motion systems, optical metrology, and environmental control
• Analyze process and test data to identify yield drivers, failure modes, and improvement opportunities
• Define qualification criteria and acceptance standards for product release

Qualifications:

• Master’s or PhD in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, packaging engineering, or related field
• Hands-on experience in integrated photonics or optical systems;
• 3+ years experience in photonic integrated circuits, optoelectronics, fiber optics, or packaging engineering
• Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) environments
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills

Preferred:

• Deep experience in high-precision optical alignment and photonic packaging
• Experience converting research-grade photonic systems into production-ready processes
• Strong data analysis skills for yield improvement and failure root cause analysis
• Experience with Design for Excellence (DfX), including manufacturability, test, and reliability
• Experience working in fast-paced multidisciplinary engineering teams
