Quantum Engineer - Readout

Job Title: Quantum Engineer - Readout. Location: Redmond, Washington, United States

Job Type: Full-time (Hybrid, 3 days per week in office)

Responsibilities:

• Design and test scalable readout systems for topological qubits at the component, subsystem, and system levels
• Collaborate with hardware, control, and qubit design teams to co-design quantum readout solutions
• Analyze, interpret, document, and present measurement results to internal teams and customers
• Develop engineering tools and processes to accelerate quantum research and hardware development
• Follow engineering best practices to improve system performance and reliability;
• Maintain workplace safety standards and assist with implementing safety protocols where required
• Support Microsoft's collaborative engineering culture and values

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field, or Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of relevant industry or research experience, or equivalent experience
• Strong background in quantum engineering, experimental physics, or related research environments
• Ability to meet Microsoft security screening and export control requirements;
• Ability to use AI tools for measurement analysis, performance modeling, research, and workflow automation
• Comfortable working in an AI-first engineering environment

Preferred:

• PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a related field, or additional professional experience in quantum research and development
• Experience with RF readout techniques for solid-state qubits, including RF-SETs or dispersive readout
• Experience with semiconductor devices or spin-based semiconductor systems
• Experience with cryogenic microwave experiments and low-noise amplifiers
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Benefits And Compensation:

• Annual base salary of USD $102,100 to $202,200, depending on location and experience
• Higher salary range available for eligible roles in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City Metropolitan Area
• Additional benefits and compensation may be available based on eligibility

• Less than 25% travel required
