Job Title: Senior Research Scientist, Quantum Error Correction. Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA; San Francisco, CA, USA
You will work with research and engineering teams to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing methods and deploy them into production-ready tools used by customers worldwide.
Duties:
- Design and implement robust methods to address key challenges in real-world quantum computers.
- Conduct advanced research in quantum error correction, including decoders, compilation schemes, logical operations, and fault-tolerant architectures.
- Develop and optimize QEC techniques to improve near-term and future quantum applications;
- Apply ideas from control theory, optimization, machine learning, computer science, and data analysis.
- Build, test, and validate new algorithms using scientific computing and quantum software tools.
- Publish high-impact research papers and present findings at leading conferences.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to translate research outcomes into production-quality software;
- Clearly explain complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences and support collaborative feedback.
- Use open-source tools such as Qiskit, NumPy, NetworkX, SciPy, Scikit-learn, and PyTorch for research and development.
- Perform other related duties aligned with skills and experience, with training provided when needed.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven research experience in quantum error correction, including surface codes or qLDPC codes.
- Strong background in decoders, compilation methods, or quantum computation architectures.
- Demonstrated research impact through publications or conference presentations;
- Experience developing scientific software using Python.
- Experience with high-performance languages such as C++, Julia, or Rust is a plus.
- Knowledge of control theory, optimization, machine learning, or data analysis is desirable;
- Familiarity with error suppression and mitigation techniques in quantum computing is beneficial.
- Experience running circuits in Qiskit and exposure to hardware such as FPGAs or ASICs is a plus.
- Strong scientific communication and collaboration skills.

- Base salary range between $140,000 and $192,000 per year, depending on experience, role level, and location.
