Research Scientist, Superconducting Qubits

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Research Scientist, Superconducting Qubits. Location: Los Angeles, California, USA (Hybrid)

Responsibilities:

  • Perform cryogenic measurements and detailed characterization of superconducting qubits to evaluate and improve device performance.
  • Design, implement, and test advanced control protocols to tune and optimize high-fidelity two-qubit gates.
  • Develop scalable, processor-wide optimization routines including cross-talk mitigation, leakage reduction, defect mitigation, and real-time retuning.
  • Build reliable software solutions for calibration, optimization, and continuous performance monitoring of quantum processors;
  • Work closely with research, product, and engineering teams to convert research outcomes into production-ready software tools.
  • Clearly explain, document, and present research results using clear technical communication for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to other research and engineering tasks aligned with the employee’s skills and experience.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field; a PhD is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience conducting research in a relevant quantum or experimental physics field.
  • Hands-on experience with tune-up, calibration, and characterization of superconducting qubits;
  • Strong background in numerical methods, statistical learning, and optimization techniques.
  • Practical experience developing software modules for qubit measurement and control using Python and C++ or similar languages.
