Research Software Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Research Software Engineer - Quantum Software. Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom

You will work with a small, dynamic team across the entire development process, from research and design to programming and testing; The position offers the freedom to think creatively and make a real impact on the future of quantum software.

Duties:

• Maintain and contribute to a Rust-based codebase for advanced compiler tools.
• Develop and apply optimization methods for quantum programs and quantum algorithms.
• Collaborate with research and engineering teams to integrate new compiler features;
• Take part in code reviews, testing, and performance tuning to ensure reliable quantum software delivery.

Qualification:

• Experience in software development, ideally using Python or Rust.
• Knowledge of quantum computing concepts, algorithms, or quantum programming frameworks such as Qiskit.
• Understanding of compiler concepts and optimization techniques;
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to write clean, maintainable code.
• Familiarity with version control, issue tracking, and testing frameworks;
• A 2:1 or higher degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to read and implement ideas from technical and research materials.

Preffered:

• Background in Machine Learning or High-Performance Computing.
• Familiarity with graph transformation systems and large-scale optimization problems.
