Job Description

Job Title: Principal Software Engineer / Architect. Location: Redmond, Washington, United States

Job Type: Full-time (Hybrid, 3 days per week in office)

Responsibilities:

• Define and lead the technical vision for Microsoft's Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) platform.
• Design and build secure, scalable, highly available, and low-latency cloud services.
• Modernize certificate lifecycle management for public and private PKI environments.
• Drive adoption of post-quantum cryptography and modern cryptographic standards.
• Design secure identity, authorization, and trust platform capabilities;
• Use telemetry and operational data to improve platform performance, reliability, and security.
• Lead architecture reviews, code reviews, testing, automation, and engineering best practices.
• Develop clean, maintainable, and high-quality code that meets security and scalability requirements.
• Improve service reliability, observability, diagnostics, and operational health.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and security teams to deliver secure-by-default solutions.
• Foster a customer-focused and data-driven engineering culture.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with 8+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
• Strong programming experience with languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check and required security screening.

Preferred:

• Master's degree with 12+ years of experience, Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of experience, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proficiency in C#, Rust, Go, Java, or C++.
• Experience building scalable and reliable distributed systems.
• Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Experience architecting distributed systems for 8+ years.
• Ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.

Benefits And Compensation:

• Base salary of $165,600 to $296,400 per year across most U.S. locations.
• Base salary of $220,800 to $331,200 per year for eligible San Francisco Bay Area and New York City locations.
• Eligible roles may receive additional compensation and benefits.

Other Information:

• Hybrid work schedule with three in-office days per week.
• Less than 25% travel required;
