Job Description

Job Title: Senior FPGA Architect, Control Systems. Location: Berkeley, California, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve a custom FPGA-based microprocessor for waveform generation and quantum computer control
  • Define system architecture, data flow, and hardware and firmware interfaces with cross-functional teams
  • Implement, simulate, and verify digital designs including DSP pipelines, control logic, and high-speed I/O systems
  • Optimize FPGA designs for latency, performance, and resource efficiency in production environments;
  • Build and maintain testbenches, verification frameworks, and continuous integration workflows
  • Support lab validation, system bring-up, and debugging on real quantum hardware
  • Contribute to long-term architecture roadmap for quantum control systems

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience in FPGA design and development for complex mixed-signal systems
  • Strong experience in architecture design, digital signal processing, and system-level hardware design
  • Proficiency in Verilog or VHDL and FPGA toolchains (Xilinx, Intel/Altera, or similar);
  • Strong understanding of timing closure, CDC, reset strategies, and digital design fundamentals
  • Experience collaborating in cross-functional engineering teams

Preferred:

  • Experience with RF, microwave, or mixed-signal systems
  • Familiarity with ASIC design methodologies;
  • Experience with real-time control systems, instrumentation, or data acquisition
  • Exposure to quantum computing systems and scientific Python stack
