Job Description
Job Title: IBM Quantum Algorithm Researcher - Japan. Location: Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan
Responsibilities:
- Work with researchers and engineers across the IBM Quantum Network to analyze and optimize quantum computing performance on hardware and cloud-based quantum systems.
- Collaborate with software development and product teams to test new capabilities and improve quantum software tools.
- Provide feedback on prototype features and identify software gaps to help shape future product development.
- Develop and maintain production-quality software across the IBM Quantum software stack;
- Stay current with the latest advances in quantum computing technologies and research.
- Deliver technical lectures, workshops, tutorials, and presentations for audiences ranging from beginners to experts.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project goals.
- Represent user feedback internally to improve products and accelerate adoption of quantum computing.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Physics, Computer Science, Computational Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in quantum computing, including running near-term algorithms on quantum hardware.
- Strong programming skills in Python and Qiskit;
- Deep understanding of quantum computing architecture across hardware, middleware, and software.
- Experience analyzing, modeling, and optimizing quantum hardware performance, including transpilation, error suppression, and error mitigation techniques.
- Excellent communication, presentation, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Fluent in both Japanese and English.
Preferred:
- PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Computational Science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of quantum system benchmarking techniques and hardware architecture trade-offs.
- Strong understanding of quantum algorithms for near-term applications.
- Experience with real quantum processors and system-level performance modeling;
- Experience with high-performance computing and hybrid quantum-classical computing.
- Software development experience, including documentation, debugging, testing, CI/CD, design patterns, and agile development.
- Experience collaborating with product, sales, and research teams.
- Experience in customer-facing or technical support roles.
