Photonics Engineer - Control

Job Description

Job Title: Photonics Engineer - Control. Location: Toronto, ON, Canada

Responsibilities:

• Develop automated measurement routines for complex photonic devices and optical systems
• Design algorithms to tune, control, and optimize device performance in real time
• Build and improve the measurement systems used for testing active photonic components
• Collaborate with design teams to align testing with theoretical device behavior;
• Implement robust testing strategies that account for environmental variations and fabrication tolerances
• Transition lab-based characterization into scalable, high-volume automated testing workflows
• Analyze experimental data and refine control parameters based on model fitting

Qualifications:

• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
• 2+ years of experience in testing and measurement of active or passive photonic integrated circuits
• Experience developing automated measurement routines for photonic systems
• Strong background in integrated photonics and multi-variable optimization;
• High-level Python skills for instrument control and data acquisition
• Experience handling experimental data and fitting results to theoretical models

Preferred:

• Familiarity with automated probe stations such as MPI, Formfactor, or Ficontec
• Background in photonic integrated circuit filter design
• Experience with high-volume measurement systems and automation

Benefits and Compensation:

• Base salary range of 110,000 to 140,000 CAD
