Job Title: Principal Quantum Systems Architect. Location: Zürich, Switzerland
Job Type:

Responsibilities:
- Define system architecture for scalable quantum control and readout systems
- Drive architectural direction for heterogeneous compute platforms supporting control, measurement, and feedback workloads
- Establish system partitioning and co-design strategies across hardware, firmware, microarchitecture, software, and quantum systems
- Lead collaboration with third-party quantum hardware partners in Europe;
- Lead system-level trade-offs and guide platform evolution toward scalable, production-ready quantum systems
- Contribute to Microsoft's culture and values
Qualifications:
- Doctorate, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field, together with industry or research and development experience, or equivalent experience
- Experience driving architectural trade-offs involving performance, scalability, power, and reliability
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements
- Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter
- Ability to meet applicable export control requirements and provide required citizenship or residency documentation
- Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft Office Copilot, GitHub Copilot, or ChatGPT;
- Ability to work in an AI-first environment using modern AI tools to accelerate hardware and software development
Preferred:
- Proven experience designing complex compute or signal-processing architectures, including SoCs, distributed systems, accelerators, or networking fabrics
- Strong understanding of system architecture fundamentals, including compute, memory, interconnects, data movement, and hardware/software partitioning
- Experience leading cross-functional hardware/software co-design initiatives
- Familiarity with quantum control, quantum readout, or quantum error correction concepts
- Experience with FPGA, ASIC, or custom accelerator technologies;
- Exposure to cryogenic or constrained computing environments
- Experience defining scalable architectures for emerging compute platforms
Benefits and Compensation:
- Typical base pay range across Switzerland: CHF 233,600 to CHF 350,400 per year
- Certain roles may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation
- Remote work arrangement
- Less than 25% travel
